Room & Board Really Is Coming to 14th & T
Reported by Justin14 and T Street NW DC by DCMetrocentric on Flickr.
It’s been a long journey for this building. It was a church. Then it was going to be the luxury T Street Flats, which fell through. It was an arts space. It’s been vacant. There was a plan to open a cafe/diner by the owners of Tryst, along with a yoga/dance studio, comedy club, and indie film space, with investors including Dave Chappelle. Then Room & Board outbid them. Then Room & Board couldn’t get funding. Then nothing. Now Room & Board has finally purchased the building for $10 million, and plan to open in spring 2010.
Now I would have much preferred the Tryst/yoga/comedy plan, but this is what we’re getting, and hopefully that project can happen in another space along 14th. This is an awesome building, and Room & Board plan to do a nice job fixing the place up. I looked through their website and found these photos of other locations. That and my thoughts after the jump:
New York City:
Chicago:
Atlanta:
San Francisco:
Now I may not be the most unbiased critic, but I think this will be the best looking building of all the other Room & Board locations. It is one of the few warehouse spaces in DC that’s still standing, and it has great details. What do you think?

I’m gonna miss the graffiti and street art that graced those walls. Oh well.

Will there be any artist’s studio space available for rent in this building? Glad it will be preserved, neat architecture.
