Earth Aid: Save Energy + Receive Rewards + Get Paid
Reported by Allicia
Starting on September 8th, DC residents will be able to sign up for an Earth Aid account for reward points. DC is the first city to go live with Earth Aid’s Rewards Program.
Points can be earned by recording a household’s utility use “each month for every kilowatt hour of electricity, cubic foot of natural gas, and gallon of water that they can save. Rewards Points that can be redeemed for exclusive savings and offers from local businesses”. This is a wonderful opportunity to earn money and to receive special rewards from local businesses like Love Cafe, Busboys & Poets, Comet Ping Pong, Local Sixteen, Live Green, Shoe Fly, and several dozen others.
To introduce Earth Aid to the District, a special event will take place on September 8th.

When you sign-up with Earth Aid and link your utility accounts, we go ahead and retrieve your historical consumption information from each of your utilities. Each month, we retrieve your latest consumption information from those same utilities – if you used less electricity (or gas, or water) than you did during the same period last year, you earn Earth Aid Rewards Points! In this case, your Earth Aid Rewards Point balance will increase; if you used more this year than last, your balance will shrink. At any time, you can choose to redeem your Earth Aid Rewards Points for any of the offers from Earth Aid Rewards Partners.
Earth Aid Rewards Partners are pioneering businesses that want to encourage energy and water savings in the community – they’re businesses that recognize that when households in the neighborhood save energy, the local environment and the local economy benefit. It’s free for businesses to become Earth Aid Rewards Partners; all you have to do to join the network is to register your Rewards offer here and agree to honor your Earth Aid Rewards Coupon when your new customers earn, print, and bring it to your place of business!
