Today Mayor Adrian Fenty along with Gabe Klein, DDOT Director and other city officials opened the largest bike station on the east coast with a ribbon cutting ceremony at Union Station.

The 1700 square foot facility can hold about 130 bicycles of all kinds. There will still be about 40 free spaces at outdoor racks. The facility offers bicycle parking, rentals, repairs and accessories at the west end of Union Station. The project cost a cool $4M and was funded by the Federal Highway Administration and DDOT.

“This is not just a facility but a testament to the type of green transportation that District embodies,” said Mayor Fenty acknowledging the steps DC is taking to become a leading green city. DDOT Director Klein stated, “This facility serves a symbol that bicycling is a legitimate form of transportation.”

Bike and Roll Washington DC, a local bike rental company will operate the center. You can park your wheels for $2 a day or $116 for an annual membership.
