Shapiro: “Shapiro formed in the 2003 in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The band consists of brothers John (drums & bgvs) and Nathan Granofsky (guitar & bgvs); Jeremy Teter (vocals, piano), cousin of the Granofsky brothers; and Carl Shapiro (bass), from whom the group’s name is derived. Their music is an infectious style of indie pop, reflecting the guys’ love of both classic rock and newer indie rock. They want to be your friend.”
Retribution Gospel Choir: “Retribution Gospel Choir plays loud and sings in key. Live, two minute pop songs run into psychedelic improvisations and drum-n-bass-heavy dub. People sometimes think the band is too loud or that they should take turns soloing, but generally, people are pleasantly surprised. Members Alan Sparhawk and Steve Garrington are also in the band Low. The band has released two tour EPs, but they’re sold out. Their full-length debut was released on Caldo Verde Records and their new album, 2, will be released January 26, 2010 on Sub Pop Records. The band is also touring the stinkin’ world.”
Last Tide: “Last Tide is a DC-based band consisting of Nate Frey on guitars/vox, Rob Miller on bass, Libby Dorot on synth/vox, and Misha Alexander on drums/vox. The band is heavily influenced by the shoegaze and slowcore scenes, but also draws from punk, experimental music, and post-rock, among other sources. Their music is distinguished by a focus on strong melodies and carefully considered arrangements. The band has performed with numerous notable regional and national acts, and showcased at CMJ 2009. They will be performing frequently throughout DC and other East Coast cities over the coming months.”
