A few recommendations in art, music and events around the District.

Thursday // 02.04:

  • Shapiro, along with Retribution Gospel Choir and local band Last Tide will be at Rock and Roll Hotel.
  • If you have tuned into WKYS in the past or gone clubbing at Love (the Club) and H2O, swing by ’95 Live at Steve’s Bar this Thursday for a special guest deejay appearance with DJ Alizay.

Please be advised that some of the events listed below will be cancelled due to the weekend’s snowstorm, which will begin on Friday morning and end on Saturday evening with snow accumulating to 12 inches or more.

Friday // 02.05:

  • Creative and artistic power couple Dana Ellyn+ Matt Sesow will be having their wedding reception and art opening for ‘Til Death Do Us Part at Long View Gallery.
  • If you missed out on last year’s DC Shorts Film Festival, DC Shorts will have double-feature films from the best of 2009.
  • Stereofaith’s monthly SORTED party at the Cat will feature Ca$$idy.

Saturday // 02.06:

  • Celebrate Chinese New Year early with National Geographic (11:30-3pm) and head over to the National Museum of American History for the Black History Month Family Day with a special performance by he Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra (from 10 – 5pm). CANCELLED
  • Georgia O’Keeffe’s “Abstraction” will be opening at the Phillips Collection. There will be more than 90 paintings showcased at this exhibit.
  • Local bands, Tennis System, The State Department, Nunchucks and Honey House will be performing live for a Haiti benefit show at the Cat.

  • Unfortunately, the anticipated weather has caused us to cancel the family festival at National Geographic. Here’s the official word:

    The National Geographic Museum will be closed Saturday and has cancelled the planned Chinese New Year Festival. Information for how Saturday’s ticketholders can redeem their tickets will be announced at a later date at http://www.warriorsdc.org.
