oh snap: DECOY “Ink” @ The Fridge

Reported by Taylor

(Editor’s Note: Welcome ReadysetDC’s new intern Taylor! All photography and words from her!)

What has DECOY been up to since we last spoke to her?

On June 18th,DECOY’s newest exhibit, DECOY ink opened at the Fridge in Eastern Market. The exhibit featured “tattoo-themed work” that included large paintings on canvas, prints on wood and paper.  With an open bar and an array of people, the event kicked off at 9PM and lasted well into the night. Live tattooing was featured at the opening of the event as well as a chance to meet the artist.

DECOY’s vision for contemporary theme such as tattoos was infused with her own interpretation. Her innovative outlook allowed her expose to test the imagination as well as keep true to her overall subject matter. Overall the event was vibrant and readily took me away from the norm “ballon-spattered” paintings. It’ll be interesting what else DECOY has up her sleeves in the future.

Activation 2719: Gallery Closed This Weekend

Reported by Allicia

Sorry, due to the three changes in schedule in the past few weeks the listed open hours of the space have now run into conflict with the selling of the property. The gallery partnership relied on this carefully planned window of time to be able to showcase these artists and their works, and the weather condition of previous weeks has drastically skewed this time-frame. We really do apologize for not being able to honor the open hours listed, as a result this Pop-Up space will be closed this weekend Friday 26th – Saturday 27th.

We will however be open the weekend of Friday 5th and Saturday 6th. We will also be creating another opportunity for you to see these artists and their work. Starting in the weeks following this show we will begin posting listed Open Studio Hours for the associated artists. This will provide you the opportunity to see, and talk to the artists in person. Again we apologize for the inconvenience, hope to see you through next weekend.

Open Hours:
Friday, March 5th (noon – 7pm) + Saturday, March 6th (10 – 5pm)

Show Closing:
Friday, March 12th

Participating Artist:
The participating artists are Tim “Con” Conlon, Decoy, James Walker, Emily Green Liddle, Bryan Rojsuontikul, Drew Gram, Diana Cruz, Aniekan Udofia as well as No Kings Collective themselves Brandon Hill, Francisco Esteban, and Peter Chang.

DOUBLE-FEATURE: The Art of the Blog_ + the GALLERY at District

Reported by Justin

We have two great events lined up for this Friday! Part one is our new monthly event: The Art of the Blog_. Each month we invite bloggers, readers and everyone in between to discuss the DC blogosphere, focusing on one blog category a month, followed by drinks and music. This month we are talking neighborhoods, and we have Dan Silverman (Prince of Petworth) and David Garber (And Now, Anacostia). Come out to meet them! Music will be provided by Sean Peoples of FATBACK.

6-8PM

Following The Art of the Blog_, we are partnering up with No Kings Collective (remember Activation 2719?) to bring you the first of a new art event series, the GALLERY at District. Each event serves as an art opening and social, showcasing the works of gallery caliber artists. The inaugural event is also the launch party for No Kings Collective! We are starting simple, with DC’s “tourist t-shirt”. We’ve pulled together some talented artists and designers to [...]
