Mayer Hawthorne + The County @ RnR
[ March 10, 2010; 9:00 pm; ] “Mayer Hawthorne grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, just outside of Detroit, and vividly remembers, as a child, driving with his father and tuning the car radio in to the rich soul and jazz history the region provided. “Most of the best music ever made came out of Detroit,” claims the singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, [...]

Words w/ Erik Bruner-Yang of PASH
Local band Pash has played hundreds of shows, traveled thousands of miles, and worked with some of the District’s greatest local artists. They were kind enough to answer a few questions before jumping [...]

DOUBLE-FEATURE: The Art of the Blog_ + the GALLERY at District
We have two great events lined up for this Friday! Part one is our new monthly event: The Art of the Blog_. Each month we invite bloggers, readers and everyone in between to discuss the DC blogosphere, focusing on one blog category a month, followed by drinks and music. This month we are talking neighborhoods, and we have Dan Silverman (Prince of Petworth) and David Garber (And Now, Anacostia). Come out to meet them! Music will be provided by Sean Peoples of FATBACK.

Following The Art of the Blog_, we are partnering up with No Kings Collective (remember Activation 2719?) to bring you the first of a new art event series, the GALLERY at District. oh snap: DC Record Fair @ Black Cat
Over 1,400 beat miners, DJ’s and vinyl connoisseurs gathered at the Black Cat this weekend for the 4th DC Record Fair. DJ’s spun records (of course) while folks fingers danced across crates looking for that rare find. The DC Record Fair was brought to you by Som Records, DC Soul Recordings, and of course the The Vinyl District.
oh snap: Dilla Day @ Stussy
James Dewitt Yancey aka J. Dilla was and still is a seminal force in music, not just hip-hop. Attending college at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in the mid-1990’s (I know I’m aging myself here) it was hard not to know who J. Dilla was, especially for the real hip-hop heads and the campus only 30 minutes from Dilla’s hometown of Detroit. Hip-hop today is a shell of it’s former self lacking the real talent, production and most importantly soul of the music that I loved in the mid-90’s.
