Seersucker in the City at Treasury
In preparations for the Seersucker Social, hosted by the Dandies and Quaintrelles, the vintage boutique Treasury presents Seersucker in the City. Treasury invites you to their 14th Street location this Saturday, June 5th from 1-4pm to partake in libations and a store wide sale (15% off everything but jewelry). Local mixologist Kat Bangs will serve up specialty cocktails courtesy of St-Germain. The ladies at Treasury also invite Seersucker Social riders to submit pictures of their best Treasury duds in action. They will judge the entrees based on best use of vintage and one winner will receive a gift certificate to Treasury.

The Seersucker Social is the Dandies and Quaintrelles seasonally appropriate answer to the fall Tweed Ride. The Seersucker Social will be held June 12th, at 3:30pm at Hillwood Estates. Hugging the edges of Rock Creek Park, Hillwood Estates is the former home of the Post family (yes, that Post family) turned museum, serving as a nostalgic escape in the heart of DC.
The Seersucker Social calls upon DC residents to dress in their finest Edwardian-meets-modern styles and participate in a leisurely bicycle ride through Rock Creek Park. Post-ride, event goers are invited to a social on the abundant and striking grounds of the museum.
ReadysetDC recently participated in a Seersucker Social photoshoot at Hillwood Estates, look out for behind the scenes photographs later this week and stay tuned for more on the Seersucker Social from ReadysetDC in the coming weeks.
Most importantly, don’t forget to register for the Seersucker Ride and Social on June 12th at 3:30pm.

We Sweat You, DC!
Words by Kelly Ferraro (Cross-posted at WelcomeOmDC.com)
We sweat the District. And apparently, the District out-sweats the rest of the nation when it comes to fitness. We’ve got the skinny on why…

For the third consecutive year, DC was ranked the fittest city by the American Fitness Index (AFI), administered by the American College of Sports Medicine. The report, “Health and Community Fitness Status of the 50 Largest Metropolitan Areas,” uses a number of criteria to measure the health and fitness pulse of the nation. The study measures each city’s performance based on 30 personal and community health indicators, including acres of parks, death rate from cardiovascular disease, obesity, the number of primary care physicians per capita and the percent of residents who bicycle or walk to work.
First Look: Agora (Dupont)
All photos by Kim Maxwell Vu
It’s a bit of an understatement to say that Dupont Circle is better known for its bars than its Turkish food. But Latif Guler, the owner of the soon-to-open Agora on 17th Street, hopes to change that.
And if anyone can, it’s certainly the owner of the popular bar Jack’s, which closed earlier this year so that Guler, a native of Turkey, could focus on what he loves. “Before, it was more like a bar,” he says. “Burgers, steaks, not a foodie place. Here, I want to educate people. I want them to learn about the food and wine of my country.” (more…)

Grand Opening: Dolcezza in Dupont
Unseasonably cold weather didn’t stop patrons from lining up outside the door of Dolcezza’s new branch in Dupont for the gelateria’s grand opening. Lured in by the promise of free gelato, a line of customers obediently waited outside the doors for their chance to go in and select a free sample. “My wife [Violeta Edelman, [...]
Free Comic Book Day
Red Herring is a comic by David Tischman, Philip Bond + David Hahn, on Wildstorm comics (part of DC Comics)
In the opening introduction to “The Tick,” one of the many comics given away as part of the nationwide holiday Free Comic Book Day, the publisher asks us, “WHO IS THE TICK?…THE TICK is most definitely MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE.”
The same could be said of last Saturday’s wholesale comics giveaway. (more…)

“Although it did not become official until July 4, on April 13, 1818, a new flag was flown over the U.S. Capitol for the first time. The flag’s thirteen stripes represented the original colonies; its twenty stars symbolized the number of states in the Union at that time. Samuel C. Reid designed the flag, which was sewed by his wife and her friends, and sent it by mail to the Capitol. Congressman Peter H. Wendover arranged for the flag to fly over the Capitol on the same day that it was received in Washington, D.C. Since the arrangement of the stars was not yet standardized (and was not until 1912), the stars on Reid’s flag were arranged into one big star.”

Once upon a time, shopping in the nation’s capitol was defined by a plethora of malls in Chevy Chase, Tyson’s Corner and Georgetown. Nothing existed to represent the city’s true and natural style. Little by little, with the help of bold creatives, a new and unique community-connected shopping experience is blooming in DC. The people [...]
